Happy Birthday/Halloween Braxton

Come check out my new blog at BeingGenevieve.com

I can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving and I haven't posted any pictures of Braxton's birthday/Halloween. Braxton turned one on the 30th of October, aka the day everyone went trick-or-treating this year. Braxton's birthday was a fun/crazy day of cooking and running around for mom. I made a ghost and bat cake in the morning, homemade chili (Halloween tradition) in the early afternoon, and breadsticks in the late afternoon. Then we had Grandma and Grandpa Hill over for dinner, presents, cake and ice cream, and then we had to hurry and dress up to go trick-or-treating. By the time it hit 8 pm I was a sleep on the couch. We had a wonderful day! Braxton LOVED ripping the paper off of presents and seeing what was inside.
Braxton as a dragon for Halloween! He LOVED being in his costume! Kevin was a pirate and I was a witch, but the picture with all of us turned out too blurry.
Our pumpkins, Jack the Halloween king from the Nightmare before Christmas and Tinkerbell.

Braxton eating his birthday cake.
Braxton's cakes that I hand carved and all I have to say is that it isn't as easy as I thought it would be!

Braxton One Year Photos

Braxton found Kevin's apple on the computer desk that he forgot to take to work.
Braxton turned one on the 30th of October.  We had a great little celebration and then went trick-or-treating.  Braxton was a pro at opening presents. Who would have though?  I will add pictures of his birthday a little later.

Since Braxton is now one we went out on Saturday and did a little photo shoot (luckily since it has been snowing ALL day today.  Here is a preview of a few pictures.  If you would like to see more please click here.
Braxton on the railroad tracks right outside our apartment.

Braxton playing in the leaves, at the park, across the street from our apartment.

Craft Central (Ties, Fabric Flowers, Fabric Balls)

Come check out my new blog at BeingGenevieve.com

Here are three few crafts that I have recently done.
1. I finally made Braxton some of those cute little boy ties that I see everywhere. I got the pattern from here. I am so happy with them! I just hope Braxton is just as happy.
2. These are flower fabric headbands that I made using scraps of fabric I had. Here is the link that I used but, I changed the size of the flower (theirs was for a purse and much to big) and I did 3 layers instead of 2. My template for the fabric flower is located below. I used 3 different fabrics. The first layer I cut 2 of the same fabric. The second layer I cut 1 of a fabric, 1 of another fabric, and then 2 of the fabric I did on the first layer. The third later I did the same as the second layer (of fabric choices). Step 3 is hard to see what they have done since the fabrics are the same, so I have included a picture of what it should look like. Do the flower just as the website does (except for the few changes I have told you to make), but when it comes time to apply to a headband here is what you do. Cut a piece of felt and hot glue it to the opposite side of the headband. This will ensure that it stays on well and won't fall off.

Here are a few other fabric hair flowers you could try. Some other fabric flowers I haven't tried yet are located here at my new favorite craft blog.
This is how step 3 should look.
This is how the felt should be glued on, with the headband pinned in between the flower and felt.
I placed my flower offset to a side. You can decide how to place on the headband.
Template for the flower. Double click to enlarge all the way. After it has printed make sure the 2x2 inch square is still 2x2 inches. If not let me know and I will see what I can do, I can e-mail the PDF to you.
3. Here are some fabric balls I made that have bells in them. Braxton loves to throw them and then chase them. Best part is, that he can't injure himself or anything else with these soft balls. Here is the pattern that I used. I didn't include the beach ball part on mine.

Vermont

Two weeks ago we went to Vermont to visit Kevin's brother Michael and his family. The were so accommodating; we had a terrific time! We loved spending time with Michael, Monica, Taylor, Owen, and Grant. Vermont was so beautiful with all the leaves changing! Everyone should be able to see New England in the fall.
One of the many hillsides covered in beautiful autumn leaves.

Southern Utah

At the end of September we visited some of the national parks in southern Utah. We went to Zions, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon. Kevin and I had never been to any of them and thought it was time to go. We took our bikes and the bike trailer to ride through some of the trails. We had a fantastic time!

Yellowstone

Come check out my new blog at BeingGenevieve.com

Saturday we drove up to Yellowstone to hike and drive around the park. It was a little chilly, but perfect weather for hiking. Braxton loved all of the steam and bubbling water!
This is us at the steamboat geyser.  Braxton looks confused because many strangers were saying his name to get him to look at the camera.
This is Braxton loving Yellowstone and his Kelty backpack!

Baby Grant

My sister-in-law, Monica, had a baby boy at the beginning of May so I made this applique blanket.  It was fun to create my own pattern and be able to accomplish it using my Cricut machine.  It was a little tricky, but by the end of the quilt I finally figured it out.  I can't wait to try it again.

Playing Catch Up

Wow!  It has been quite a while since I have posted anything.  We have had many things happen, but I will just add the biggest changes we have had.
1. Kevin graduated with his Bachelors in Business Management at the beginning of April.

 2. We moved into a spacious town home for the summer until the other apartment we have been eying opens up in the Fall. We really enjoy this town home, but it is a little above what we can afford. So, the landlord cut us a deal for the summer. It has been very nice to have so much space and storage!

Proud Parents of Cutest October Baby

At the beginning of the year, Kevin and I entered Braxton in the Post Register's "Cutest Babies of 2009" Contest. (The post register covers an area that stretches from the Salmon River area, east into Montana, into western Wyoming including Jackson and south to Blackfoot, Idaho.) The newspaper does this contest every year and picks a winning baby for each month and awards them with a prize. We are happy to announce that Braxton won for the month of October. We will be picking up his prize today and will keep you posted if it is anything special.

Best Braxton Laugh

Braxton was helping mom cook dinner and when she pulled out the pot he started laughing at all the noise.  What a sweet heart!  We just love the joy he adds to our lives!

Here are a few scrapbook pages I have made for Braxton's scrapbook.  I was given a Cricut Expression for Christmas from Kevin and have loved scrapbooking so much more because I have such a fun machine!
